Day Six on the Azores: The Magical Island of Flores and Its Hidden Gems
Hello everyone! My name is Christine Nobles, and together with my boyfriend Mike, we are on an unforgettable journey through the Azores. Today, I’d like to share our experiences from the sixth day, which took us to the mysterious and breathtaking island of Flores.
Flight from São Miguel to Flores and First Impressions
Our adventure began early in the morning when we flew from São Miguel to the island of Flores. During the flight, we were treated to stunning views, including the majestic Pico Mountain, which rose above the clouds like a guardian of the Azores.
After landing on Flores, we picked up our rental car, but we quickly discovered a small surprise—the air conditioning wasn’t working. Fortunately, we managed to resolve the issues quickly and fully immerse ourselves in exploring this enigmatic island.
The View from Miradouro do Portal
Our first stop was the Miradouro do Portal lookout. As soon as we arrived, we were absolutely stunned. The panoramic view was breathtaking, with lush green mountains and deep valleys stretching out before us, immediately drawing us into the island’s magical atmosphere.
Journey to the Ribeira do Ferreiro Waterfalls
Next, we headed to the Ribeira do Ferreiro waterfalls. The walk through the lush nature was an experience in itself—birdsong, the fresh scent of plants, and gentle sunlight filtering through the trees filled us with peace. When we finally reached the waterfalls, we were left speechless. It was one of the most beautiful places we had seen on the Azores. Surrounded by natural beauty, we felt completely relaxed and silently took in the stunning surroundings.
The Fairy Tale Bacalhau Waterfall
Our next stop was the Bacalhau waterfall, which turned out to be a place straight out of a fairy tale. Picturesque villages nearby, massive mountains, and cascading water created an atmosphere that you rarely find elsewhere. This corner of the world captivated us completely, and once again, we were mesmerized by the pure beauty that Flores has to offer.
Magical Drive Around the Island and Views from Caldeira Rasa e Funda
Every drive on Flores feels magical, thanks to the surrounding nature that envelops you at every turn. One unforgettable stop was at the Caldeira Rasa e Funda lookout, where we felt like we had reached the edge of the world. The thick fog added a mysterious and mystical touch to the place, enhancing its fascinating atmosphere.
Final View from Miradouro da Caldeira Seca
Our last stop was the Miradouro da Caldeira Seca lookout. Although we had already seen many breathtaking spots throughout the day, this view was something special once again. Panoramic vistas, endless horizons, and a sense of freedom filled us with awe.
Ending the Day and Relaxing in Our AIRBNB
After a busy but incredible day, we arrived at our cozy AIRBNB, where we enjoyed a well-deserved dinner. Flores revealed its magical and rugged beauty to us, and I know that this island will stay in our hearts for a long time.
