Day Four on the Azores: Caldeira Velha, Lagoa do Fogo, and a Stingray Feast
Morning Trip to Lagoa do Fogo
Our day began early as we took a bus to Lagoa do Fogo, a lake within a volcano. We were excited, but the weather wasn’t on our side – thick fog obscured the view of the lake. We were surprised to find that we couldn’t reach this place by scooter and had to use the local bus. Despite the fog, the journey was fascinating, and the surrounding nature was incredibly beautiful.
Relaxation at Caldeira Velha
Our first stop was Caldeira Velha, where natural hot springs are located. Bathing in these wild springs was an incredible experience. The warm, mineral-rich water perfectly relaxed us. Surrounded by lush vegetation and exotic plants, we fully enjoyed this unique moment.
Return to Lagoa do Fogo
After relaxing at Caldeira Velha, we returned by bus to Lagoa do Fogo. Although the fog persisted, the breathtaking crater lake in the heart of São Miguel dazzled us with its panoramic views. This view was truly unforgettable and filled us with awe at the natural beauty of the Azores.
Stingray Feast at Caloura Bar
Our next stop was Caloura bar, where we tried a local delicacy – freshly caught stingray from the Atlantic Ocean. The food was excellent, and the experience of tasting such fresh and flavorful seafood was indescribable. The local cuisine impressed us once again with its simplicity and authenticity.
Well-Deserved Rest at Coloura Beach
Our final stop was Coloura Beach. After a busy day full of adventure and exploration, we deserved a rest on this beautiful beach. The ocean waves, soft sand, and tranquil atmosphere of the beach were the perfect end to our day.
This fourth day on the Azores was full of new experiences, from natural spas at Caldeira Velha to a culinary adventure with stingray. Each day on this magical island brings new and unforgettable moments. I look forward to more days of exploration and sharing our experiences with you.
