Day Seven on the Azores: Thrilling Boat Ride to Corvo and Discovering the Hidden Gem
Hello everyone! My name is Christine Nobles, and together with my boyfriend Mike, we’re exploring the breathtaking beauty of the Azores. Today, I’m excited to share the story of our seventh day, which was packed with adventure and awe-inspiring experiences.
A Morning Full of Adventure: Boat Ride to Corvo
Our day started early with a scheduled boat ride to the mysterious island of Corvo. Little did we know that the boat ride itself would be an adventure to remember! We didn’t expect to be on a high-speed boat, and the adrenaline rush was both thrilling and terrifying. As we sped across the water, the wind in our hair and the excitement in our hearts made it an unforgettable experience.
The Spectacular Journey
The boat ride was absolutely fantastic, offering breathtaking views of massive cliffs while the sun warmed our faces. As we neared Corvo, we were treated to an extraordinary experience – navigating through sea caves under the island. This was both scary and exhilarating, a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
Arrival at Vila do Corvo
After about 40 minutes of this adrenaline-packed ride, we arrived at the charming village of Vila do Corvo. The village, with its quaint streets and welcoming atmosphere, was like stepping into a different world. We strolled through the village, soaking in the tranquility and simplicity of island life.
Exploring the Legendary Caldeirão
Our main destination was the legendary volcanic crater, Caldeirão. We took a taxi to this massive volcanic marvel, which was everything we had hoped for and more. The sheer size and beauty of the crater left us speechless, surrounded by lush greenery and the quiet majesty of nature.
The Happiest Cows in the World!
Corvo is also home to what we like to call the happiest cows in the world! Grazing freely in the crater’s expansive pastures, these cows added to the serene, almost magical atmosphere of the island. We truly believe that on smaller islands like Corvo, you can fully immerse yourself in the local ambiance and feel the unique charm of the Azores.
Return to Flores and an Unexpected Encounter
After a wonderful afternoon exploring Corvo, we boarded the boat to return to Flores. On the way back, we had the incredible luck to spot several whales! Seeing these majestic creatures up close was the perfect ending to an already amazing day.
A Cozy Retreat at cafe Big Love by Monika
Back on Flores, we found a cozy retreat in a café called Big Love by Monika. This charming, modern café was the perfect place to relax after our adventurous day. We highly recommend it to anyone visiting the island – it was a delightful blend of comfort and style.
